How do you incorporate sustainability into your designs?

There are a few ways which I incorporate sustainability within my design; I create classic beautiful clothes that could have been worn 20 years ago, they can be worn today and they will be able to be worn 30 years from now. Part of being sustainable is creating things that stand the test of time; secondly I use organic & sustainable materials in my collections to further the notion of luxury sustainability.

Tell us about your Spring line:

My current spring/summer collection which hits stores shortly was one of my favorite collections to date. Art, nature and the idea of a certain style were major inspirations in this collection. There were three definite stories that could be seen: one of a chic Mediterranean woman floating around on a yacht in her bateau stripes and linen. The second came from artist and dear friend Terence Koh's stark white works, and lastly it was flowers which provided me the feeling of romance and color. I even used my first print which happened to be a beautiful violet floral print with a touch of yellow.

Describe the aesthetic of your line in 3 words:

Clean, Classic and Chic.

What's something you've learned from designing clothes?

I have learned that everyone is an individual; it is interesting to see two women buy the same dress because the way it looks on each of them is so different, and the way a woman styles that dress adds to the fact that they truly are unique and individual.

What is your favorite part about fashion week?

My favorite part is the fact that all of my friends in the industry are in the same place doing the same things! It is so rare to have my editor, model and designer friends together all at once. It always feels like the first day of school.

Tell us a little about the short film that you will be showing during Fashion Week:

This season I decided to further the idea of technology and fashion. With so many shows & presentations I decided to forgo the standard idea and create a film with the new collection. It stars my dear friend and eco-activist Hannah Bronfman and is directed by Michael Van Buren who is a genius behind the camera. The film itself is titled "MUSE" and it’s the idea of my girl running around the streets of NYC. I was trying to capture the idea of what happens to the clothes after they are bought, it is always really interesting to watch the clothes come alive & move. Print this post
